"Maldives Border Miles” launched

A one-of-a-kind loyalty programme for a destination — Maldives Border Miles — has been launched.

Maldives Border Miles has been initiated by Maldives Immigration, and developed with joint stakeholders — Ministry of Tourism, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).

Tourists who enrol in this programme will earn points based on the number of visits and duration of stays. Additional points will be awarded for visits to celebrate special occasions.

A three-tiered loyalty programme, each tier will be defined by a set variety of rewards, services or benefits, which increase in value as members progress.

The three categories in this program are Aida (bronze tier), Antara (silver tier) and Abaarana (gold tier).

Maldives Border Miles will be officially implemented on December 1, 2020.

“The Maldives Border Miles programme is a programme which will increase the popularity of Maldives as a tourist destination and provide a path for more marketing and advertising opportunities. In addition, I think that this will further enhance the popularity gained in the key markets of Maldives tourism,” said Honorable Dr. Abdulla Mausoom, Minister of Tourism, Maldives.

Maldives closed its borders on March 27, 2020 following the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic. Tourism accounts for a majority of its foreign exchange earnings. Around 1.7 million tourist arrivals were recorded to the Maldives in 2019.

The island country officially reopened for tourism on July 15, 2020, with enhanced precautionary measures against the Coronavirus.
